What Is Art?

Almost everyone considered painting or sketching as art; but do you really know what is art? Art is a creative expression of human imagination, and emotions which is portray though different mediums like photography, literature, theatre, sketching, music, dance , film and many other digital formats.

Through art a human can define their emotions. Art reflects culture, identity and imagination. Its a medium to convey ideas, story or beauty. Every human know something that they do or see which is a type of art. Every person do small things in their daily life or see things which is called as an art. If i tell you a fun fact about art you aren’t going to believe me. Scrolling reels is also considered as art(yes you heard me correctly😅),because observing art is considered as art too.

For some people , simply looking at things-whether it’s a sunset, a puddle shaped like a cat, or even the way coffee swirls in a cup- can feel like art. It’s all about perspective. If you can find beauty, humor, or meaning in what you see, congratulations—you’re turning life into your personal art gallery!

Living a life can be seen as an art because it involves creativity, self-expression, and making choices. Just like an artist creates something unique , we shape our lives through our actions, relationships, and how we deal with challenges . The imperfections and growth we experience add to the richness of life, making it a personal masterpiece that we continuously create.

Visual Art

Visual arts means the art that can be seen visually. It can be in the 2D or 3D form. It express message, meanings and emotions through visual means. It includes various mediums to portray and that are paintings, drawing, sculptures, photography, ceramic, printmaking and many more.

Visual art is composed of some fundamental elements that artists needs to keep in mind while creating any art. That fundamental elements are :

• Lines: A line can be diagonal, vertical, wavy or even curved.
• Color: Using of hues(red, yellow, blue, green ,etc.), shades, and tones to create contrast and mood. Intensity of using hues and shades should be kept in mind while creating art.
• Texture: How something is going to feel when we touch and how does it look.
• Shape: Geometric or any shape that will build the base of any art.
• Form: It is a three dimensional element that will show how our art is formed.
• Value: How light or dark our color will look.
• Space: Positive and negative area in our work.

Visual art is important in understanding our world, to express ourselves and also help us to connect with others.

Performing Art

It the type of art form that is performed live in front of people. It includes dance, theatre, music, dramas, and many more; where performing artists used there body to convey emotions and messages. Performing helps us in building confidence, communication skills, empathy, teamwork, and creative thinking. This art is done by people to show their religious beliefs.

Literary Art

It usually focus on using of languages, tone, storytelling, and imagination that have meaning and brings emotions .Written works such as poetry, fictions, drama, and essay are considered as literary art.

Elements that every artist keep in mind while doing literary art are:

• Themes: It is basically the idea or central message that the story will convey, like love, action, thriller, etc.
• Characters: The people that will be shown in the story. They are going to be fictional and will also show their role in the story.
• Setting: The time and place where the story takes place. It will also include the atmosphere and environment of that place.
• Plot: The sequence of events that are going to occur in the story.
• Tone: It will show the author’s attitude towards the subject.

Importance of literary art is that it allows people to express themselves , connect with others, help us to understand humans emotions. It was used to serves as cultural and religious reflections across the different times.

Applied Art

Applied arts means something which is created with specific practical purpose. It includes architecture, fashion design, industrial design, crafts, ceramic arts, calligraphy, automotive designs, interior designs, graphics designs, sculptures and cartographic designs (map).

Media Art

Media art means using the technology to create art and storytelling . It involves human interaction to covey messages and evoke emotions. Film making, photography, videography, audiographer, etc.

Elements that are important to keep in mind while makin media art are:

• Composition: It includes framing and placements of shapes.
• Time: Includes editing and how long a shot lasts.
• Space: Illusion of space between the objects on screen.
• Contrast: Creating color contrast in the object where the audience will be drawn.
• Value: The lightness and darkness of color.
• Lighting: Setting the light shades according to the situation.
• Sound: Using sound that is natural and sounds perfect according to the situation.
• Movement: Moving of an object on the screen. It should move within the space.

Digital Art

Digital art is the form of art which is created using digital technology such as digital tools, electronic devices or computer software. 3D Art, Graphic design, Digital paintings, Animations, and Pixel art are the type of digital art.

Elements that are important while doing digital art:

• Composition: Arrangement of elements.
• Color & Lighting: Choosing a color palette that will enhance the art and lighting will make the art look real.
• Textures & Brushes: Technology will give us tools that will mimics real life tools like brushes, pencils, watercolor and oil paint.
• Layers: Artists can now edit art because of layers tool which help us in editing one thing at a time without destroying any others works.

So the conclusion is that art is not about paintings and photography- its about expressing your emotions through creativity. It reflects the culture and human expression. It also helps us to connect us to our history, represents our present and inspire the future. You don’t have to be an expert to start doing painting; just pickup your paintbrush and paint whatever you feel but please don’t paint like majnu bhai did it in” welcome”😂. You aren’t going to put it on auction like he did😝.In the end, art is like a mystery; sometimes you understands it, sometimes you don’t. But that’s the beauty of it.
